Is it fall yet?

There's a hint of fall in the air...
ok, not really
 but
I'd like there to be a "hint of fall in the air."

So in order to feel more "fallish"
this week's table is a way of ushering out the summer
and welcoming a cooler season.

Welcome back!
It's Thursday, time for another tablescape.

The warmer colors make me think of soups, and sweaters, and hot cocoa.
However, it's a little too warm for all that now
but I know it's around the corner.

See the little flamingos?
They were a gift from my sister,
she knows I have a weakness for these little ones.

Thanks so much for dropping by,
here's to cooler weather!

Meet Meredith...

Collections...
they're fun, aren't they?

And with most collections, the thrill is in the hunt.

You never know when you'll find another addition,
one that makes you smile.

Welcome to Tablescape Thursday!

"Meredith" is the centerpiece for this table...her name means, protector of the sea.
Kinda perfect for a seashell collection, right?

Her headdress was made from shells collected from all sort of travels,
most notably from Sanibel Island.

With a little braided headband, she's wearing her favorites.

Dressing a table with favorites is fun too, right?

Thanks so much for visiting!

Just a little pink...

Welcome to Tablescape Thursday!

Today's table was inspired by these little sweetheart roses.

Using a touch of gold and pink
this week's table is a quiet, simple, vintage table.
Enjoy!

Memories and a New School Year!

I taught elementary school for 29 years, spending most of those years teaching "reading." When I went back to school for my master's degree, I chose to be a Reading Specialist. I loved this study more than all my undergraduate courses combined! In fact, I specifically remember one of my favorite professors walking into class with a red wagon loaded with children's books. We all squealed with delight and couldn't wait to see all the treasures she brought to share.

Fast forward a few years, my husband and I had two children of our own. I was determined to read each day to my little ones to foster a love of reading in their little hearts as well.
Enter: Dr. Seuss.
I personally grew up with his books
 and
wanted my children to have those same experiences.

I'll bet you can guess what today's table features...
yep, books!
More specifically children's books,
both loved and treasured!

Welcome to this week's table...
it's all about memories
and
a new school year!

Dr. Seuss was unconventional for his time...

...and didn't really follow the rules.
In fact, he thought children needed more interesting "primers" to help with beginning reading.

He took a look at the basic word lists and scoffed.
Instead of using that list,
he looked for the first two words that rhymed (in that boring list)
and the rest as they say, is history!

CAT...HAT

When I was a child,
my mother had the "Beginner Books" for me
and
I remember reading and reading and rereading them.
In fact, I still remember not to feed my fish too much!

And this book holds very special memories...

...my boys loved all things cars.
This book, by P.D. Eastman ~ that also came in the Beginning Books,
was the first book they both actually "read."
It was a proud moment for us all!

I've been retired for a few years now,
but my internal clock still runs on the "school calendar."
So this post is dedicated to all my fellow educators,
Have a GREAT School Year!

And more importantly,
this post is dedicated to my two sons...
I'm so very proud of you both!

P.D. Eastman was a great children's author and illustrator as well. In fact, some of his illustrations look vaguely familiar, this one in particular (from Fish Out of Water.)
It looks just like an animated P.D. Eastman!

If you have little ones, I'd bet they'd enjoy these titles too!

Cooling off...

Welcome to Tablescape Thursday!
This week's table is all about trying to stay cool
during these warm summer days.

I have a few little friends joining me,
Mr. Cockatiel and his buddies.
They are always a favorite!

Enjoy!

His sweet little face makes me smile!

 I'm feeling better already!

Bailey's...

Welcome to Tablescape Thursday!
It's another new week to share our finds
and tables...
another week to be inspired!

This week my table is super simple,
in fact,
it's just for one.

You see,
I fell in love with these winking coffee cups...
how could I not?

My mother has a pair, not sure where she got them
but
I've been on the hunt to find my own matching cups.

As luck would have it,
I found this set at a local antique mall...
and they were 1/2 off.
sold.

I think they are so friendly,
so cute
and yes,
winking!

If you were to research them,
there are slight differences in the sets:
the bows are different colors
some have rims

Ebay

sometimes there are no rims.

My set happens to be from the mid 1990's -
not really vintage
but
I love them anyway.

If you're interested in beginning your own collection,
there are several different pieces available.
There is a sugar and creamer set,

Ebay

 and mugs.

I' looking for the teapot myself...
I think it's super cute.

But for now,
my pair sit in my
cabinet...

...just winking
and welcoming all who visit.
