Shells, Shells, and more Shells

I'm joining Susan for her Metamorphosis Monday. Be sure to stop by for amazing transformations!

As I was browsing the other day, I ran across a set of gorgeous candlesticks {I'm so sorry I can't remember which store they were from ~ if you know please let me know!}They were completely covered in seashells. As I checked on their price, I was floored...$750.00! I couldn't believe it. They were pretty but I couldn't pay that price.

So, I saved the picture...{my inspiration}...

...and made them myself.

I bought two plain, wooden candlesticks from Hobby Lobby ~ they were on sale{yippee!} I gathered seashells/coral from trips and shell shops...
...the fun began!

Shells were hot glued to the wooden candleholders. I wanted the two to look similar, so whatever I did to one, I tried to find companion shells for the second one.

I began with the larger pieces and then filled in with smaller shells.

Candles were added and....

...for about $10...I'm pleased.

Thanks so much for visiting...enjoy your day!

All Things Blue and relaxing!

I'm joining Smiling Sally for her Blue Monday. Be sure to stop by for all things "blue"!

While we were on vacation, resting and relaxing, I decided to see what all I could find that was blue. Some pictures are from the ship while others were taken in Progreso and Cozumel, Mexico.
Enjoy!

Little combos greeted us at the piers...with their tip "jar".

Gorgeous, crystal clear blue water...amazing!

Bright, blue neon lights...everywhere!

Living near Galveston, our water is more green and murky from sediment. These waters were crystal clear!

The weather was gorgeous...the blue skies were a crowning glory each day.

The beaches were refreshing...the blue shade was welcoming!

We wondered if the blue neon lights made us so relaxed that we made ONE more trip through the buffet line! ...Hm...surely this couldn't be the reason my clothes shrunk a bit!

These blue neon signs automatically drew you to the cool patio pool!

Even blue tiles were placed on the walls.

The blue carpet led the way to your cabin...

...and blue panels on the walls that greeted you when you left your cabin.

We saw so many wonderful, colorful sights when shopping.

And as we left...we all felt a little blue to be leaving such a warm and relaxing place.

I hope you are having a terrific Monday...enjoy your day!
Thanks for visiting!

One for the Boys!

This is not a typical post...not really girly things, only things for boys and well, their toys. This one is for my husband...and his hobby, saving vintage cars.

We have a deal, I basically get to do what I want in the house, he has the garage. I even gave up my parking place for him! Believe me, that was huge, especially on rainy days! We live in the heart of suburbia...house after house...postage size yards...one tree in the front yard...and a single car driveway. That's probably the least favorite.

My husband bought a corvette over 12 years ago. It's a 1978 Silver Anniversay {32 years old!} He says it's a special model  because it was the 25th Anniversay of the car {and... it has a really cool emblem on the hood and back.} I will be the very first one to admit that I know nothing about cars...I just like the way it looks.

When he bought it, it ran but needed a lot of work...air conditioning, new carpet, seats, door panels, etc. So today, June 19, 2010...it's almost finished! Just a bit more tweaking here and there and she's ready to roll!

Then about a month ago, he bought another vintage car, a 1967 Camero {43 years old!} He bought this one because it was the first year they made Cameros. He said it was a project for him and our youngest son. Well, since our youngest is about to go off to college, I am a bit skeptical about that! I know that he just wanted another project...this I understand! But because we have a deal, I don't say a word because after all, it fits in the "his" garage.

This one needs a little work too!

Yep, that's the hood.
{Ok, for all the girls out there...do you see that chest of drawers behind the hood? That's my new project. This belonged to my grandfather...he stored all his clock/watch things in there. My plan is to sand it down and repaint it. I want to replace the formica countertop with a different surface, one made of wood that I'd also like to stain. I think it would be perfect for a buffet in a different house ~hint, hint~ and super for storage!}

So this is the way our driveway usually looks...like a parking lot. It takes a little planning...on who needs to leave first and such, but it's workable.

We love our home but in a couple of years we hope to move to a place with a bit more space. This home has been great for raising children and is in a great location. However, as empty nesters, we're ready for a change, a place for all our hobbies!

Happy Father's Day!

Fabric...

Do you have a stack of fabric sitting around?

I have a very small stack, I'm not a true seamstress...I just piddle.

I've been working on beachy crafts so I thought I'd make a few napkins for a place setting.

I chose the fabric and cut each napkin square.

This fabric frays easily so I thought I'd just let them fray. To keep it from completely unraveling though, I sewed one straight line at 5/8" from each edge.

Then frayed the edges!

So easy!
