If these Faces could Talk...

I guess the reason I love vintage things over new things is the story behind the item. I always wonder who had the item, where was it placed, why it is in my hands...did they tire of it, did family members pass it on?

The items I'm sharing today are from my maternal grandfather. He was a minister that tinkered with clocks as a hobby. Because of him, I developed my appreciation for these timepieces...it's their faces that truly hold their story.

This is a little pocketwatch inside a cloche.

I wonder if most kids know that clocks were once wound with keys?

Looks like these two must have quite a story.

I wonder why this porcelain face needed repair?

This is the face of one of my favorites. The crackle is authentic.

A Little Cuckoo!

I'm linking with Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday. Please visit her and the other participants for amazing treasures!

I started collecting souviener spoons by accident. I found about 10 while thrifting and loved their intricate details. The ones that caught my eye were places that my son or I had visited, others were places that I would love to visit...wishful thinking!

After seeing my "new" collection, my mother gave me a spoon from her collection. It is the cutest spoon, a cuckoo clock! The weights and pendulum are moveable, I just love it! She and my father purchased it on a trip through Bavaria about 25 years ago. The neatest thing is that this spoon matches the actual cuckoo they purchased/gave to me all those years ago. They both are such treasures!
Thanks Mom!

Special things...

Please join Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday. It's a fun place to visit for special treasures!

I have just learned how to make mosaics on Picasa and I'm hooked! It's so much fun so I thought I'd use it for my special treasures.

This mosiac houses some of my very special treasures. The Bible is from my paternal grandparents. They brought it with them from Germany and as you can tell, it's been loved. The autograph book is from my maternal grandparents side of the family, also brought with them from Germany. The angel is from my sister~in~law and the seashells and fan are from my travels to various beaches.

Enjoy your Friday!

Show and Tell Friday

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday. {Thanks to Kelli for hosting this event.} Grab a second cup of coffee and visit her and the other participants as they share pictures and stories about their treasures!

Today I'd like to show a special collection my mother put together for me as a memento of two very special ladies in my family.

Can you find the delicate glasses? They belonged to my great~great~grandmother. Aren't they just the cutest things?

They are carefully tied with two different ecru ribbons. Below these glasses are three very special books which belonged to my grandmother.

Her name was Lydia, isn't that a beautiful name? It's one that is not heard too often these days. When I do hear this name, it makes me think of lace, roses, and gardening. {Notice the date on the book: 1915}

My mother has been giving me special things over the years and she writes little notes with the item's history. I'm so glad she does this...thanks Mom.

Thank you for visiting today, I hope you enjoyed this show and tell. Happy Friday!
