Yummy treats...

I like to make desserts, but I usually don't unless it's for a special occasion.
Because...
if I make it just for the two of us,
I can nibble my way through entirely too much of the treat.
ugh...no will power

But then I had an epiphany!
{a sudden realization ~ that's for you, John}

No need to stop making my favorites...
I'll just make them for my weekly meetings.
If there is any left, we'll have a little treat for our dinner!

Meyer Lemon Pound Cake
Look what was left over from this morning's meeting...just a nibble or two.
...perfect...

What are your favorites?

Mirror, Mirror...

I began a new Bible study group today...
it's based on the book:
Mirror, Mirror: Reflections on God's Word by Susan Senechal.
Have you read it?

We're beginning Session 1: Knowing the Person You See in the Mirror.

Here's her opening:
"One of the first people I see every day when I get up is...myself.
Shortly after rising, I'm sure to get a peek at myself in the mirror, whether I want to or not."
Susan begins her introduction with these thoughts.
Do you like what you see?
Many women don't.
They tend to see the wrinkles, graying...the shouldas.

"The truth is that we don't see ourselves the way God sees us. He is our Creator and Redeemer. God sees us through the filter of the cross, in the reflection of His Son, with the eyes of love."

Looking forward to this study.

Christmas in September?

I used to cringe
when I'd see stores displaying Christmas items
in September.
Why were they rushing the season?

Now I understand.
It's for all of us "do-it-yourselfers."

Having a small business, we appreciate
having supplies available a bit early!

It gives us time to make all our treasures for our customers!

So to all our suppliers, thanks!

Essential Oils...

Have you used essential oils?
I'm just beginning and so far, I'm liking them.

The starter kit has 10 oils and a diffuser.
I love my diffuser.

For example, there are times where there is a funky smell in my laundry room...
not sure where it's coming from.
My house is about 2 years old, so age isn't the problem.
However, we have old bricks {that are not sealed} as the flooring...
I'm assuming that's the problem.
Using diffuser zaps the smell issue fast.

Sometimes, I just want to freshen my house.
Yep, you guessed it...
the diffuser is my tool.

How does it work?
See the white "egg" looking object on the right side of the photo above?
Just remove the purple top, add distilled water to the fill line, and add 1- 3 drops of your favorite oil.
Plug it in, turn it on, and that's it!
There are even two settings...continuous diffusing or 30 second intermittent diffusing.
Another great feature is that it turns itself off...no worries!

My favorite oil?
Stress Away

It's has such a unique scent...I use it diffused all over the house.
It makes me feel relaxed...stress free!

I'm trying other uses for the oils as well...I going to make foaming hand soap!

Do you use essential oils?
If so, what is your favorite oil?

If you haven't tried essential oils, and have questions, just ask?
I have a great representative that has loads of answers!

Favorite Restaurants...

I live in the Houston area.
We have tons of restaurants with a vast variety of food.
A favorite?
Yep, Mexican.
But recently, I've become hooked on a special place,
Tommy Bahama's Restaurant and Bar.

Not only is the food delicious, but the atmosphere is dreamy as well.
Try the shrimp salad...
mmm.

You can check out their website here.

What is your favorite restaurant these days?

Late bloomer...

I'm a retired educator.
My school experience began when I was 4 years old
and continued until my 51st birthday.

There were a variety of ages and academic levels over the years, but one of my favorite type of learners were the ones that required a different approach and a bit more time.
They were willing, in fact eager to learn,  just needed a different twist of presentation.
I viewed it as a puzzle...just needed to find another direction.

And the true joy?
Yep, I'll bet you already know.
When the light bulb went off and you heard those sweet little words,
"I get it!"
Then there were smiles, and sometimes even hugs.
Aw...the true rewards of being a teacher.

I can relate to these learners because I too am a later bloomer...
sometimes I need a bit more time to figure things out.
Just look at these "later bloomers" from my  yard!
After all the others had reached their full potential,
this little guy is just now showing all its glory!

So to all the "later bloomers" out there,
this one's for you!

Do you know anyone who needs just a bit more time to accomplish a goal?

One thing leads to another...

You know how one thing leads to another?

So, if you're following along on my "Hawaiian Adventure"...
and yesterday I posted the recipe for Blue Hawaii...
and the recipe calls for Jell-O...
{are you still with me?}

Well, I googled this particular recipe to see if they already had an image I could use.
They didn't..{so what you saw is the real deal!}.
BUT
Google did have a lot of COOL things you can make with Jell-O...mainly BLUE Jell-O.

I most likely would have found this if my kids were still young...but since they're all grown and on their own {sob, sob}, I haven't really searched "cool kid treats" in a while.

Well...
IF you have little ones...Google "Blue Hawaii Dessert" and see all the neat things you can make!
Here's a few examples!

or this

Now, I'm not so far of the loop with this one:
too cute!

Do you have a favorite "fun" recipe you use with Jell-O?
